William B. "Bill" Sewards, Jr.

February 11, 1951 — June 8, 2017

A funeral service celebrating the life of William B. Bill Sewards, Jr., age 66 of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Shawn Morris officiating. Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Private burial will be held at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery in Thornville. Bill was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 12, 1951 to the late William Bland and Betty Jean (Cooperrider) Sewards. He passed away at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehab Center on June 8, 2017. Bill graduated from Newark High School, Class of 1969; received his Bachelors degree from Capital University and received his Juris Doctorate from Capital University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Upsilon Fraternity. Bill was a self-employed attorney in Newark for many years. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was a Private First Class with Imjin Scouts Company C, 1st Battalion, 31st Infantry. He received his rank of Sergeant with the 101st Airborne, Company A, 2nd Battalion, 327 Infantry. After his honorable discharge, he served in the Army Reserves. He was a life member of the Newark VFW, was a life member of Newark DAV and was a member of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Korean War Association, and received the Korea Defense Service Medal. He was also a member of Neal Avenue United Methodist Church. Bill enjoyed working out at the Licking County YMCA, was an avid reader and Ohio State Buckeye fan. He was also a life-long Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. Survivors include his loving wife, Bobbie (Stanfield) Sewards; son, William Yang Sewards; daughter, Samantha Frizzell; sister, Diane Jean Beggrow; brothers, Thomas (Karen) Sewards and Frederick Alan Sewards; niece, Erin Beggrow; nephews, Tommy and Patrick Sewards; and numerous other friends. Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Bill and the Sewards family.
