Wayne "Tony" Arthur Durieux Sr., age 81, of Thornville, OH, passed away on Wednesday, February 26th, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 25, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of the late Ernest Durieux and Madge Slack.
Tony was a proud graduate of Wadsworth High School, where he was an active member of the swim and boxing teams. His dedication and work ethic carried over into his professional life, where he served as a respected State Farm agent in Newark, OH, for 45 years, building lasting relationships with his clients and community.
Throughout his life, Tony was deeply committed to community service, leadership, and making a difference in the lives of others. He was a past president of the Jaycees in Norton, OH, the Licking County Association of Life Underwriters, the Lakewood Athletic Boosters, and the Licking County Shrine Club. His dedication to service extended to his role as a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Hebron, OH.
Tony also had a deep love for boating and leadership within maritime organizations. He served as past commodore of the Catawba West Harbor Yacht Club and past president of District 7 of the International Order of the Blue Gavel (IOBG), later achieving the distinguished honor of serving as international president of the IOBG.
In recognition of his outstanding community service and leadership, Tony was honored as a Kentucky Colonel, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky.
But above all his accomplishments, Tony’s greatest love was his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he treasured time spent with his loved ones cheering them on in their endeavors or simply enjoying a quiet moment together. His wisdom and humor will be missed but never forgotten.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sandra; his three sons, Tony Jr. (Catherine) of Westerville, Sean (Shellie) of Blacklick, and Scott (Marci) of Massillon; seven grandchildren, Alex (Natalie), Nicholas, Baillie, Dara, Brady, Makenna (Harrison), and Gia; and three great-grandchildren, Tommy, Teddy, and Emerie.
Tony’s legacy of kindness, leadership, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
