Walter Lee Preston Jr., a beloved member of the Granville, Ohio community, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the age of 71. Born in Davenport, Iowa, on January 28, 1955 on a crisp winter morning, Walter lived a life full of adventure, dedication, and love.
Walter was the cherished husband of Judith Lynn (Taylor) Preston, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage this past June. Their enduring love story began on June 5, 1976, and together they shared a lifetime of rich experiences. Walter was a devoted brother-in-law to Chuck (Barb) Taylor and Steve (Rose) Taylor, and a proud uncle to Lacy (Travers) and Corey. He delighted in the adventures of his great nephews, Bruce and Brian Walter. Walter also leaves behind numerous cousins including Don (Jennifer) Ernest, Paulette (Mark) Kreiner, Steve Kight, Patty (Steve) Tiso, Pete (Terri) Kight, and Jeff Kight, along with a wealth of friends who enriched his life.
Walter is now reunited with his late parents, Walter Lee Preston Sr. and Florence M. Preston, whom he always honored and remembered fondly.
A dedicated and self-employed race car engineer, Walter's passion for precision and performance was evident in his work. His skills were respected by peers and admired in the racing community. His dedication extended beyond his profession; he was a member of the Iron Butt Association, celebrating his love for long-distance motorcycle riding.
Walter's passions for travel and exploration led him and Judith across the world. Whether hiking on distant trails, skiing down snow-covered slopes, or exploring new destinations in their RV, Walter embraced life's adventures with enthusiasm. He cherished time spent tinkering with projects both big and small, exercising creativity and skill in creating solutions.
In memory of Walter's compassion and his love for animals, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Licking County Humane Society.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service in Granville.
Walter Lee Preston Jr. will be remembered as a loving husband, dedicated family man, and an adventurous spirit whose passions inspired everyone who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and friends forever.
