Walter Greene, Sr.

September 15, 1947 — February 6, 2026

Newark

Walter Greene Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6th, 2026, in Newark, Ohio. Born on Monday, September 15th, 1947, in Moultrie, Georgia, Walter lived a life rich with dedication, service, and love.

Walter's early years in Moultrie laid the foundation for a lifetime of hard work and family devotion. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he displayed courage and commitment to his comrades and his nation. Walter embarked on a successful career as a dedicated machinist, contributing over 25 years to the Packaging Corporation of America.

A former member of the Elks Lodge and an attendee of the Bethel Rock House of Prayer in Newark. Walter was a man of strong community ties and faith. He was known for his passion for working on automobiles, his knack for playing cards and checkers, and his love of landscaping. He spent many cherished moments watching Westerns, trying his luck with the Ohio Lottery, and enjoying the simple pleasure of porch watching.

A Life of Service and Simple Joys, Walter was truly at his happiest when he was busy. He had a lifelong passion for working on cars, and many of us have memories of him tinkering in the yard, grease on his hands and a smile on his face. He didn't just fix engines; he fixed problems for people. He was the definition of someone who would go the extra mile, never hesitating to help a friend, a family member, or even a stranger, no matter the time or the task. When he wasn't helping someone out, he loved the simple things that made life sweet: the laughter shared with his close friends, and, above all else, the time spent with his family. He taught us that the greatest wealth in life is the kindness you show to others.

Walter is survived by his beloved children: Nikole Greene, Irene-Kay "K.C" Greene, Walter "Leon" (Tonya) Greene Jr., and Brandon (Jodie) Greene. He leaves behind a legacy through his adored grandchildren: Jasmine, Maleek (Brenna), Tristin, Azaria, Kya, Jayvin, Aaliyah, Gabrielle, and Josiah. His siblings, Henry (Judy) Greene Jr., Jerlene Greene, Gregory Greene, and Cecil Greene, along with brother-in-law Gregory Williams. Walter's aunts, Mattie, Doris, and Lula Mae; uncle Norman; special friend Linda "Little Bit"; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and a wide circle of friends will fondly remember his warmth and generosity.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Irene Greene; his siblings, Michael Greene, Deborah Sue Greene, Curtis Greene, Lindsey Greene, and Cassandra Williams; and former wives, Brenda K. Greene and Ruby Carter.

The family extends their gratitude to the Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service in Newark for their care and compassion during this time.
