Virginia Mick

Virginia Pearl Mick, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted community member, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on April 17, 1936, in Glenville, WV, she was a cherished resident of Thornville, OH for many years.

A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at Thornville United Methodist Church, located at 30 E. Columbus St., Thornville, OH, on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Victoria Burgoon officiating the service. Following the service, Virginia will be laid to rest at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, next to her husband, Kermit. Friends and family are welcome to gather for visitation at the Thornville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral Home, 56 S. Main St., Thornville, on Tuesday, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Virginia was proud to be a graduate of Glenville State Teachers College, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. Her passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling career as a Home Economics School Teacher at Sheridan High School, where she dedicated over 25 years to educating and inspiring her students.

She was a member of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Women's Teaching Society, the Perry County Retired Teacher's Association, the National Education Association, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

Virginia’s life was enriched by her love for quilting, cooking, baking, recipe sharing, camping, and traveling, with a special fondness for trips to Florida. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family and friends, creating a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Virginia is survived by her loving sons, Walter (JoLynn) Mick and Marc (Kristina) Mick; eight adoring grandchildren; and five cherished great-grandchildren. She joins in eternity her husband, Kermit H. Mick, her parents, H. Darrell D. Horner and Ellenora (Jones) Horner, and her brother, Jimmie Horner, who predeceased her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia's memory to FairHope Hospice or the Thornville United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Thornville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral Home. Virginia will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to teaching will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
