It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Virgil Arthur O'Bryant, a cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. Virgil peacefully departed this life on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026, at the age of 89 in Newark, Ohio.
Born on Thursday, July 16th, 1936, in the small town of Rarden, Ohio, Virgil was the beloved son of the late Virgil Z. O'Bryant and Dora O'Bryant. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Gladys O'Bryant; daughters, Jackie Ray and Vickie O'Bryant; and grandson, Waylon Morris.
Virgil proudly served his country as a dedicated member of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was associated with the prestigious Thunderbirds as an avionics technician. Following his military service, he applied his skills as an avionics technician for many years with Net Jets, where he was highly regarded for his expertise and commitment.
A man of diverse talents and passions, Virgil found joy in flying remote airplanes and helicopters, often sharing these moments with members of the Charleston Remote Control Society, which he was proud to be a part of. His love for aviation extended into his personal life, where he held a pilot's license. Additionally, Virgil was a skilled guitarist who found solace in music and the company of his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending serene days fishing, reflecting his appreciation for the simple pleasures of life.
Virgil leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, survived by his brothers and sister: Jerry (Gail) O'Bryant, Johnny (Anne) O'Bryant, Sharon (Don) Johnson, David O'Bryant, and Mark O'Bryant. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Jason (Jessica) Santavicca, Amanda Fraley, and Charlie (Jakob) Ray; along with his great-grandchildren: Kristian, Caleb, Kiersten, Brantley, Ava, Randy, Isabella, Liam, Karrine, Jonah, Mia and Mikayah; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Family, friends, and those whose lives Virgil touched are invited to pay their respects at a visitation on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home in Newark, Ohio. Immediately following the visitation, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. with military honors being observed by the Licking County Veteran's Alliance, a tribute befitting a man of Virgil's honorable life and service.
Virgil’s final resting place will be at Dorchester Memory Gardens in Summerville, South Carolina, where a graveside service will be held on Monday, April 13th, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
