Vetrice Mae "Vee" Cohagen

Newark

A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Vetrice Mae “Vee” Cohagen, age 92, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 66 Granville Street in Newark with Father David Sizemore officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Johnstown.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. Prayers will be said at 12:30 p.m. with a procession to St. Francis to immediately follow for the Mass.

Vetrice was born September 9, 1932 in Pickerington, Ohio to the late Edwin and Bessie (Moore) Newlun. She passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Arlington Care Center.

Vee was a childcare provider in her home for 40 years. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension in Johnstown where she taught Catechism. She also cleaned the church for 26 years. Vee became a widow at age 40 and worked multiple jobs to care for her children. She was a very loving person, opening her home to many in need.

She is survived by five children, Hannah (Robert) Lehman, Terri Dowell, Richard “Mike” Cohagen, Fred (Kim) Cohagen, and Chris (Lori) Cohagen; 16 grandchildren including Angie (Dale) Foor, Jennifer Beeson, Shelly Cohagen, Candi (Mo) Bagheri, Nicki (Jeff) Martin, Cheyenne (Shawn) Dunavant, Jason Sayre, Sarah Flikens, Jimmy (Courtney) Dowell, Jeremy (Chad) Dowell, Kristi Cohagen, Mike Cohagen, Chad (Mary) Cohagen, Jacob (Jennifer) Cohagen, Christopher (Emily) Cohagen, and Carissa Cohagen; 26 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Short; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cohagen; sons, Jay and Pat Cohagen; three brothers, Gene, Pete, and Gordon Newlun; great-grandson, Denver Dunavant; son-in-law, Jim Dowell; and special friend, Harold “Buck” Michaels.
