Verna Lee Wells

March 29, 1947 — September 4, 2025

I won’t be far away for life goes on. So, if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile and “Welcome Home”.

Today, September 4, 2025, Verna changed her address to Heaven. She was born on March 29, 1947 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late John A. and Virginia E. (Bond) Jones.

Verna’s strong faith will carry her all the way to Heaven and she’ll be greeted by Jesus himself. “Good job, my Faithful servant. Welcome to your coming home party.”

Over her travels, Verna had been a Girl Scout Leader. In 2002, she made a TV commercial in New York City for a large drug company after doing a photo shoot for Parade Magazine. She worked as a church secretary in Venice, Florida, Johnson City, Tennessee, and Granville. She was an EMT and fire fighter for 10 years with Licking Township and Hebron Fire Department and was a paid fire fighter and EMT for West Licking Fire Department. She was one of the first women to complete training at The Ohio State Fire Academy.

Verna was the most loving Wife and was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, besides being a loving and best friend to her husband of more than 58 years (look for me for I’ll be along soon). I miss you so much, a moment seems like a lifetime without you. See ya soon because you are my breath and without breath there is no life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Wells; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Robert Postelwaite of Newark; five grandchildren, Larry Johnson, Karie Johnson, Joe Johnson, Brock Wells and Abby Wells; two great-grandchildren, Gabe Johnson and Alaina Johnson.

At her request, no service will be observed.

A special thank you to Hospice of Central Ohio for their excellent care of Verna.

Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Verna and her family.
