Obituary

A funeral service celebrating the life of Van Charles “Chuck” Mills, age 70, of Heath, will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Clifford Mason officiating. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.

A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, at Grove Hill Cemetery in Hanoverton, Ohio.

Chuck was born September 10, 1955 in Salem, Ohio to the late Van Allen Mills and the late Kathryn Jean (Snay) Mills. He passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).

Chuck was a proud graduate of the West Muskingum High School class of 1973. His professional journey was marked by his dedication and skill as a Master Electrician for 38 years, including his work at the Jay Company and his steadfast membership with the IBEW Local #1105. An avid golfer, Chuck spent countless joyful hours at the Echo Springs Golf Club along with traveling with his Tuesday group all around Ohio. He took many trips to Myrtle Beach with 50 of his best friends who he cherished very much. His love for challenges extended beyond the greens, finding delight in crossword and jigsaw puzzles. A man of simple pleasures, Chuck also took great pride in maintaining the beauty of his yard and the polish of his cars.

Chuck's commitment to excellence in his craft was matched only by his unwavering loyalty to his beloved sports teams—the Cleveland Browns, Guardians, Cavaliers, and Ohio State University football, a passion that he shared with energetic enthusiasm.

He is survived by two daughters, Ashley Fitch of Zanesville and Rachael Mills of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Baylee Harris, Airona Williams, and Skylar Johnson; great-granddaughter, Zylah; sister, Chryal (Ernest “Nick”) Nichols, Jim (Cindy) Mills, and Michael Mills; former wife, Gail Ann Mills; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ron and Dave.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Chuck and his family.
