It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephen Jay Greenfield, lovingly known as Steve, at the age of 76. Steve departed this life on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in Newark, Ohio.
Steve was born on Tuesday, March 28, 1950, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. From a young age, his life was characterized by a sense of duty, integrity, and devotion to family and country. He proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War, exemplifying courage and commitment.
For over four decades, Steve dedicated himself as an over-the-road truck driver, navigating the highways of America with unwavering dedication and skill. He was self-employed, taking pride in the independence of his work and the opportunity to traverse the country hand-in-hand with his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Greenfield. They shared 44 years of marriage, a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures since tying the knot on July 6, 1982.
Steve was a cherished family man, survived by his loving wife Barbara; their children, Scott Greenfield Day, Jay Greenfield Justice, Michelle (Scott) Kaiser, and Mao (Nadja) Angeletti III. He was a doting grandfather to Taylor, Cameron, Joe, Sha, Mao IV, and Noah. His legacy extends to his great-grandchildren, Hendrix, Jade, Aubrey, Gio, Bradley, Emmett, Hazel, Amelia, Aria, Lenora, and Addison, who will carry forward his spirit and love of life.
Preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Thersa Greenfield, grandchildren Mark and Hannah, a brother, Michael Greenfield, and a sister, Susan Greenfield, Steve’s memory will endure through the many relatives and countless friends he leaves behind, including his aunt, Jane (Bill) Briggs, close friends Ron and Connie McManaway, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Steve was a proud and active member of American Legion Post #85 in Newark, Ohio. Outside of his professional life, he found joy in fishing, target shooting, and sharing the open road with Barbara. His life was enriched by the friendships and camaraderie at the legion, solidifying his commitment to veterans and community service.
In honor of his life and memorial, donations can be made to the American Legion, Post #85, Newark, Ohio. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service of Newark is honored to care for Steve and his family during this time.
Steve's life was one of service, adventure, and love, a true testament to his unwavering spirit. His absence leaves a profound void, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
