Shirlen Jimmy Wilson, a beloved resident of Newark, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025 while surrounded by his loving family at home. Born on February 4, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, Jimmy lived a life rich with commitment, service, and joy.
He graduated from Utica High School in the class of 1958. Jimmy served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War in 1962, where he demonstrated exemplary skill and was honored with the Expert Rifle M-14 award duringbasic training in Fort Knox. His dedication to his country was a testament to his character and a source of pride throughout his life.
After his military service, Jimmy found his professional home at Roper Corporation and then Tectum where he retired. He worked diligently and built lasting relationships with colleagues who became cherished friends. A man of varied interests, Shirlen was a dedicated member of various organizations, including a Life-Time member with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1060, American Legion Post 85, Newark Eagles, Moose Post 499, and Druids. These communities provided him with not only camaraderie but also a platform to serve and connect with others who shared his deep values.
Jimmy was a man who knew the simple pleasures of life, such as drinking his favorite Bud Light, smoking Pal Malls and enjoying a round of golf with his friends. He was a Cleveland Indians fan along with the Cleveland Browns. He loved his Mound Builder Euchre Club family which he cherished his friends and the VFW teammates throughout the year and winning multiple championships. His warmth and humor were woven into the lives of those who knew him.
In 2022, Jimmy was cared for by Sebert and Irene Wilson’s granddaughter, Angela (Collins) Schlesiona (Great Niece) and her family, where he lived with them until his journey to heaven. During that time he experienced so much love, joy, peace, kindness and gentleness with many great memories while traveling domestic and international vacations. He became a great part of theirn families’ lives. He joyfully gave his heart to Jesus and was assured of his eternal life before passing. nWe would like to thank everyone who helped with Jimmy’s care while he was on this journey.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Dona (McCumbers) Wilson, wife, Linda Wilson in 2017; brothers, Steve and Sebert Wilson; brothers-in-law, Fred Dillion, Floyd Thompson, sisters-in-law, Irene (Brown) Wilson and Judy (Goff) Wilson.
Jimmy is survived by stepson, Jimmy Justice; grandchildren, Jamie Shaw and 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Glenn Wilson and sisters, Charlene Dillon and Linda Thompson.

A Celebration of Life will take place at The VFW Post 1060, later in November 2025.
