Ruth Mae "Mame" Calhoun

April 30, 1928 — September 20, 2015

A funeral service celebrating the life of Ruth Mae Mame Calhoun, age 87, of Heath, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, at the Kirkersville home of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service, 285 East Main Street, Kirkersville, with Pastor Brian Harkness officiating. Burial will take place in Glen Rest Memorial Estate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service.Ruth was born May 1, 1928 in New Salem, Pennsylvania to the late James A. and Ruth (Lynn) Frost. She passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Newark Hills Health and Rehab Center in Newark.Ruth was a member of the Hebron New Life United Methodist Church and the Eagon Chapter #123 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ruth was a lifelong homemaker and mother and took great pride in caring for her family and keeping a beautiful home. She was very family oriented and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers, decorating her home for all the holidays and was known for her delicious pies and Sunday dinners. Some of her hobbies included traveling, making jewelry, needlepoint, crafts, reading, jigsaw puzzles and she enjoyed playing cards with her family every Sunday night.She is survived by three sons, James W. (Carol) Calhoun of Gulf Breeze, FL, Gregory L. (Debbie) Calhoun of Pickerington and John A. (Paula) Calhoun of Heath; a daughter, Gelaine Calhoun of Heath, with whom Ruth made her home; four grandchildren, Matthew Calhoun of Warrensburg, MO, Krystin (Blake) Baker of Gulf Breeze, FL, Christopher Calhoun of Newark and Jonathan Calhoun of Pickerington; four great-grandchildren, Cameron and Chesney Calhoun of Warrensburg, MO and Delainey and Coleman Baker of Gulf Breeze, FL; a sister, Nancy (Robert) Mathias of Uniontown, PA; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Calhoun, whom she married March 25, 1947; and by nine brothers, Ernest, Robert, Irvin, Leslie, Bill, Lynn, Wallace, Donald and B.D.A special thanks to Newark Hills Rehab for their excellent care.Memorial contributions may be made to the Hebron New Life United Methodist Church.Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service is honored to care for Ruth and her family.
