A funeral service celebrating the life of Ronnie Edward Smith, Jr., age 55, a resident of Buckeye Lake, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark, with Pastor Curt Martin officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held later in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, 3225 Dublin Rd., Hilliard, OH 43026.

Born on Monday, July 20, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio, Ronnie was a beacon of joy and positivity to everyone whose path he crossed. He passed away just shy of his 56th birthday on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio) following a courageous battle with cancer. He is now resting in Paradise.

A 1988 graduate of Licking Heights High School, he furthered his education in computer science, emboldening his natural affinity for technology and computer games.

Ronnie was known far and wide for his culinary skills, managing the Denny's in Buckeye Lake. He attracted patrons from near and far, especially truckers who sought out his meals. His mother and sister shared that his delicious eggrolls and perfectly cooked steaks were a favorite of many.

Outside of work, Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. His cheerful spirit shone brightly as he brought smiles to family and friends, carried by his unwavering faith and love for the Lord. Through his life, he exemplified the importance of spreading joy, making people smile, and maintaining a positive outlook.

Ronnie's love for his family and community resonated deeply, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege to know him. His loving family will continue to celebrate his life and cherish the many memories he left behind.

He is survived by his beloved mother, Linda L. (Andrix) Smith of Buckeye Lake, with whom he made his home; father, Ronnie Edward Smith, Sr. of Gahanna; son, Ronnie Edward Smith III; daughters, Kay Lockwood and Heather Smith; three grandchildren; devoted sister, Carrie L. Smith of Newark; nieces, Carlinda and Patricia Smith; two great-nieces, Guinevere and Isabella; great-nephew, Anthony; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
