Robert D. Taylor

Robert Dale Taylor, born August 21, 1935, to Mabel (Tilley) and Walter Taylor in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on September 4, 2026, at the age of 91.

Affectionately known as “Sonny” to those who knew and loved him, he spent his early years working alongside his father on the family farm—a place he cherished and continued to call home throughout his life. It was there that his lifelong love of farming took root, becoming a passion that remained an important part of who he was. He graduated from Etna High School in 1953 and later proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he taught fellow soldiers to drive tanks.

In addition to farming, Sonny worked as a service technician for ADT Security for over 45 years. He was a hardworking man who took pride in his work, but it was the life he built outside of work that mattered most to him.

In 1983, Sonny married the love of his life, Nancy (Harvey), and together they built a life centered around faith, family, and love. They raised five children together: Brian (Stacy), Lindsay (Scott), Brett (Kelsey), Matt (Ariel) and Brittany (Bryant). He was a beloved “Papa” to his 11 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and who brought tremendous joy to his life.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gene; and his sister, Marion.

Sonny never met a stranger. He had a remarkable way of making everyone he encountered feel as though they were an old friend. He was generous by nature, a true giver who was always willing to share his time, lend a hand, or do whatever he could for someone else.

He loved the Lord. While his absence leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved him, his family finds peace in knowing that he is now in Heaven, rejoicing with his Savior.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his generous heart, his easy friendship, his devotion to his family, and a life well lived.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 10th at 11 a.m. at Hoskinson Funeral Home in Kirkersville, with the family receiving visitors from 10-11 a.m Thursday. A graveside service will follow the funeral and family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life and luncheon at Real Church in Pickerington. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project in Sonny’s honor.
