Robert “Bob” Hinebaugh, 84, of Granville, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at his residence in Granville. Born to Carl and Trevabelle Hinebaugh on September 2, 1941, in Forest, Ohio, Bob was a devoted family man, an accomplished physicist, and a cherished member of his community.

Bob graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1963 with a degree in Mathematics and subsequently attended George Washington University, where he received a Master’s Degree in Engineering. He spent 39 years working at the Newark Air Force Base where he received numerous awards from the United States Department of Defense, the United States Air Force, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology for his work on national defense projects, including the Sidewinder Missile and the Strategic Defense Initiative. His work as a physicist was marked by diligence and great integrity.

Bob’s journey was shared with his wonderful wife of 58 years, Paula A. (Stove) Hinebaugh, whom he married on June 28, 1964. Together, they explored and hiked beautiful landscapes and cherished each moment at National Parks around the country. Their travels were filled with laughter and discovery, leaving behind personal journals and photos that their family treasures. As residents of Granville for over 60 years.  Bob and Paula were often seen on their daily walks on the bike path and visits to Whit’s with their dog Daisy. 

Bob and Paula were members of Granville First Presbyterian Church for nearly six decades, and they found joy, amazing friendships, and spiritual fulfillment within its walls and among its devoted congregation. Bob served in many capacities at the Church as an Elder, Deacon and longtime chair of the Properties Committee. 

Bob was a guiding light to his children and grandchildren, and provided a shining example through his steadfast morals and unshakable faith. He is survived by his son, Jeff (Erika) Hinebaugh; daughter, Laura (Peter) Igoe; as well as sister, Barbara Benjamin; brother, Ron (Jean) Hinebaugh. His loving grandchildren, Hans (Casey), and Analise Hinebaugh, and Jack, Elisabeth and Sadie Igoe, who held an incredibly special place in his heart. His extended family includes many loving nieces and nephews, along with a host of dear friends including Rhonda Booth Duvall, his compassionate caretaker in his final years. 

In humble dedication to his life's accomplishments and the community that embraced him, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church of Granville, located at 110 W. Broadway, Granville, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bob to the Newark, Ohio Salvation Army or to Meals on Wheels, c/o Centenary United Methodist Church, Granville. Envelopes will be available at the church service.

His absence leaves a void deeply felt by those privileged to have known him, yet his enduring legacy continues to envelope us in warm and enduring memories.
