Richard Lewis Palmer II, a proud and dedicated US Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Born on Tuesday, March 19th, 1946, in Ohio, Richard lived a life marked by service, devotion, and love for family and country.

Richard was the beloved husband of Phyllis J. Palmer, with whom he shared many cherished years. He was cared for by loving family, Kathy Sims Roberts and Tawsha (Matt) Greene, and leaves behind a legacy of numerous great nieces and nephews, as well as many great-great nieces and nephews,; and many friends who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lewis Palmer and Betty Palmer, and his sister. Richard's memory will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones.

Richard honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he served as a Gunner Mate, Petty Officer 3rd Class. His bravery and dedication were recognized with several commendations, including the prestigious Purple Heart and the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device. He was also awarded the American Defense Ribbon, the Award Citation, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

An active member of American Legion Post #85 in Newark, Richard was known for his storytelling, particularly about his military service. He had a passion for playing the guitar, was an avid reader of the Bible, and enjoyed cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date, details of which will be shared with friends and family.

Richard Lewis Palmer II will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on through the stories, love, and laughter he shared with those he touched throughout his life.
