Richard Dean Lohnes, Jr., age 69, of Ashville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2024 at OhioHealth Berger Hospital in Circleville.
Richard was born January 23, 1955 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Richard Dean Lohnes, Sr. and the late Mildred Lois (Burchett) Lohnes. He was a graduate of Westland High School in Columbus.
Richard was retired and had been employed in facility management at large companies in Columbus and worked for Ohio Equities in Columbus. A very active Mason and a member of of Linden Lodge #637 F & AM of Columbus, Richard was currently the Assistant Secretary and Tyler. He was Past Master and held the title of Worshipful Brother among his brother masons. He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in 1999. He was also the Grand Superintendent of Knight Masons USA in Ohio, was a member of St. Brendan’s Council #113 and St. Clair’s Council #75, was a past Excellent Chief of St. Clair’s Council, a member of the Order of St. Thomas of Acon and was scheduled to become the local order’s Excellent Chief on January 1, 2025. He was a member of the Columbus Commandery #69, and was a Knight Templar. This distinction made him a 32nd degree Mason. He was also a member of the 11th Capitular District Officers Association where he served as their secretary, and was a member of the Community Chapter #227 Royal Arch Masons. Richard loved camping, fishing, traveling and loved history. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America for many years and was still an active member.
He is survived by three sisters, Connie (Dr. Peter) Ewald of San Francisco, California, Rhonda (Tom) Sexton of Heath, and Christy Stewart of Clarksville, Tennessee; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
A private celebration of Richard’s life will be held at a later date.
