A funeral service celebrating the life of Raymond Albert “Ray” Meckley, age 92, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, at the Second Baptist Church, 19 West National Drive, Newark, with Pastor Bob Cassidy officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens where Military Honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Raymond was born May 19, 1933 in Newark, Ohio to the late Arnold M. and Lillian F. (Iden) Meckley. He passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at his home.
Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum where he was a sales engineer and following his retirement he was employed with Elder Beerman where he was a dock supervisor and receiving manager.
Ray was a lifelong member of the Second Baptist Church and was also a member of Gideons International and the Columbus Baptist Association. He enjoyed Indy car and NASCAR racing and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan (John) Harder and Cindy Hale, all of Newark; grandchildren, Keela (Phil), Kayleigh (Justin), Alan (Jenn), Bill (Katrina), Frank (Kristen), Noah, and Dan; great-grandchildren, Cayden, Kennedy, Bellamy, Kamden, Kannon, Quentin, AJ, Journey, Remy, Gisele, Ethan, Makayla, Kayson, and Thielen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annis L. Meckley, who died April 8, 2020; and by son-in-law, Frank Hale; a granddaughter, Natalie; and by a brother and a sister.
