Nick Lewis Rutledge, age 58, of Newark, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Nick was born October 13, 1966 in Newark, Ohio to the late Ronald Lewis Rutledge and Connie Sue (Taylor) Rutledge Stough.
Nick was formerly employed as a welder. He was known for his love of the outdoors and his unwavering passion for the woods. His heart found solace and joy in working on his cabin and in the simple pleasure of fishing, which he taught his daughter when she was just a little girl. Nick’s hands were skilled in building and tinkering, always in pursuit of creating something new and meaningful.
Music was a lifelong companion for Nick, and he especially enjoyed listening to Classic Rock. His love for animals was boundless, with a special affection for his loyal dog, Wilbur, who was waiting for him. Nick's sense of humor was infectious, and his wit and charm were highlighted by an ornery smile that brightened the lives of all who knew him. He was a man who was loved by many and whose absence will be mourned greatly.
He is survived by his daughter, Trisha Rutledge (Emanuel Oliveras) of West Lafayette; grandchildren, Karsin Pinthanond and Odin Oliveras; a brother, Bart Lewis (Sue) Rutledge of Newark; sister, Darcy (Arthur) Causby of Lancaster, South Carolina; nieces and nephews, Zach Rutledge, Brittni Dixon, Dakota Dixon, Brooklyn Dixon, Dallas (Kayla) Dixon, and Tanner (Courtney)Treadway; great-niece, Jamiee Hoover; great-nephew, Jason Dixon; his step-father, Joel Stough of Newark; and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Drive, Heath, OH 43056.
A private celebration of Nick’s life will be held by his family.
