Funeral services, celebrating the life of Meritt Keith Thogmartin, 93, of Millersport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Covenant Church, 11544 Summerland Beach Road, Millersport, Ohio, with Pastor Steve Bush as celebrant. Burial will follow in Millersport Cemetery.
Meritt Keith Thogmartin passed into the presence of our Lord on November 27, 2025, seven years to the day when his beloved Sylvia did the same. Keith was a good and faithful servant in all the realms he was blessed to live. He was born in Codell, Kansas on May 31, 1932, the son of Donald O. and Velma J. Thogmartin. A 1950 graduate of Jacksontown High School, Keith was quarterback of their 6-man football team and played trumpet in the marching band at halftime while still clad in his football uniform. Keith enlisted in the USAF during the Korean War and served with a Medical Unit in Japan, caring for wounded soldiers, sailors, and airmen engaged in that terrible conflict. While enlisted, Keith and Sylvia were married on June 14, 1953. After his honorable discharge, having achieved the rank of Staff Seargent, Keith continued to hone his medical skills. He, with Sylvia’s wise and able assistance, began his own Medical Lab in Millersport along with a mobile lab unit which allowed him to serve doctors and their patients in the more rural parts of the tri-county area. Keith was an avid duck and ground hog hunter, loved to play tennis, learned to fly along with sons Keith and Mark, and enjoyed numerous hobbies from building furniture, to restoring old cars and car radios, to photography, to flying model airplanes and gliders. He and Sylvia loved springer spaniels, having as pets an unbroken succession of this breed beginning with Decoy and ending with Beatrice (“BeBe”) who passed only a month before Keith.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Deane (JoAnn) and Bruce(Jane) Thogmartin. He is survived by his loving family: children Merritt “Keith” and his wife Susan, Mark B. and his wife Donna, daughter De Anna and her husband Jeff Spencer; grandchildren Amanda (Dan), Anthony (Melissa), Andrea (Kyle), Ryan (Khali), Jeffrey (Regina), Philip (Sarah), Sylvia (Matt), Sam, and Kellam; and great grandchildren Penny, Reagan, Kihryn, Kwynce, Merritt, Lyric and Coco, and best friend Timothy Meek, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 30, from 4-6 p.m. at Covenant Church in Millersport. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. service on Monday, November 30. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials be directed to FAIRHOPE Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
