Obituary

Meredith “Mert” Little passed away on Tuesday, September 29th at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus. He was born on January 24,1941 in Fort Waye, Indiana to the late Asa and Gladys (Headly) Little.

Mert graduated from Harlan High School in 1959. He received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 1963. Mert served in the United States Air Force as a navigator and pilot. He was a member of the Wild Weasels as a navigator during his time in Vietnam. He returned home and went on to pilot training and flew C-5s all over the world. He retired from the Air Force as a Major after 21 years of service. After retiring, he held several jobs until he was able to retire permanently. He loved to tell stories of his years in the air and spoke of his love of flying any chance he got.

Mert is survived by his son Mark Little, his wife Lisa, and his daughter Julie Miles along with her husband Dale, and stepsons Josh Young, his wife Erin, and Ian Young, his wife Chris Ann. Mert also leaves behind his grandsons Collin Little, Henry and Evan Miles and step-grandchildren Evelynne, Willix, and Gemma Young.

Mert was preceded in death by his wife Molly Young and his step-grandson Conner Young.

Mert’s greatest love was being in nature. He was happiest in a canoe on a quiet lake, hiking a trail, or hunting and fishing. After living in various places throughout the country, he returned to Ohio this past year to live with his daughter and her family. He loved spending time with his grandsons, eating ice cream, and snuggling dogs.
