Mary Helen Johns

  A funeral service celebrating the life of Mary Helen Johns, 81, of Utica, will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Jason Snyder officiating.  Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mary Helen was born in Utica, Ohio on January 14, 1937 to the late Willis Day and Helen (Barncord) Lake.  She passed away at her residence, while surrounded by her loving family, on October 11, 2018. Prior to retirement, she was an account information supervisor with Park National Bank for many years.  She was an active life member of Utica United Methodist Church.  She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, working on the blood mobile unit.  She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, spending time with her family and supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren in their sporting events. Survivors include her children, Debbie (Greg) Davis, Karen (Hal) Hoover, Vickie (Scott) Williams, Kimberly (Tim) Garee, Shelly (Randy) Ellis and Jody (Tim) Minton; sister, Jackie (Chuck) McDonald; brother, James Lake; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Bud” Johns; son, Gerald Douglas; and sisters, Vivian Edman and Gwendolyn Johnson.
