Mary was born January 2, 1931 in Fallsburg, Ohio and was the cherished daughter of the late Verall and Mabel (Myers) Nethers. She passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). Mary left behind a legacy of strength, faith, and unconditional love.

Mary was one of 13 siblings and carried with her the values of family, resilience, and devotion throughout her entire life. A dedicated homemaker, Mary’s greatest accomplishment and deepest pride was being a mother. She devoted her life to her children, helped raise many of her grandchildren, and lovingly babysat countless great-grandchildren. Family was always her top priority.

A woman of deep faith, Mary lived by the Bible and loved Jesus wholeheartedly. She treasured a good scripture and carried herself with the gentle spirit of God’s child. She was the sweetest, most gentle little lady – never judgmental, always ready to listen, and always offering quiet strength and comfort to anyone who needed it.

Mary’s life was a testament to endurance, faith, and unconditional love. Her strength through pain, her unwavering independence, and her tender heart will forever inspire those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Evelyn “Beck” Schimpf and her husband Charles; son, Jeffrey Grooms, brother, Larry Nethers and his wife Nancy; daughters-in-law, Cathy Grooms and Kim Day; grandchildren, Danny, Darrick, Darcy, Ebbie, Becky, Amy, Jayne, Buddy, Chad, Crystal, Monisha, Brandy, Jeffrey Jr., and Zachariah; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Helen (Buck) Crenshaw, Norma (Scott) Webb, Alt Ray “Bud” Grooms, Victor Grooms, and Timothy Grooms; grandchildren, Shawn Grooms and Christopher Grooms; great-great-granddaughters, Harper and Kaliyah; and six sisters and five brothers.

A special thank you to Hospice of Central Ohio for their excellent care of Mary.
