Linda Rose Sturgell, age 77, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Inn at SharonBrooke. Linda Rose was born June 18, 1947 in Richlands, Virginia to the late Edward and Runa (Leemaster) Steele.
Linda’s early years were spent in Kentucky where she met her soulmate, Doug, at Fedscreek Elementary School. It was there that their lifelong love story began, as Linda Rose caught Doug’s eye in the 8th grade and he escorted her to prom that year. Following graduation from Fedscreek High School their shared journey continued into college, as they both attended Morehead State University. Linda Rose received a Bachelor’s degree from Morehead State and her passion for teaching led her to further her education with a Master’s degree from The Ohio State University.
With a career spanning over three decades, Linda Rose made a significant impact on her students as a reading specialist at North Fork and North Ridge Elementary Schools. Beyond her professional life, Linda was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress, dedicating her free time to crafting exquisite quilts and wall hangings.
Linda’s legacy of compassion, creativity, and commitment to education will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her warmth and generous spirit touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark in the hearts of her family, friends, and students.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Elster Douglas “Doug” Sturgell, whom she married June 13, 1968; son, Davin Douglas (Chrystal) Sturgell of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, Carley Sturgell and Courtney Sturgell; sister, Susie McGuire of Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Edwards.
A celebration of Linda's life will be held at a later date.
