Kelvin Dean Hite, age 69, passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2026.
Kelvin was born in Washington Court House, Ohio, and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Eastmoor High School in 1975. Throughout his working years, he served as a conductor for the Chessie Railroad and later worked as a mechanic for the City of Bexley until his medical retirement in the early 2000s.
Kelvin was preceded in death by his parents, Norma Jean (Thomas) Hite and Samuel John Hite.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Robin (Jarvis) Hite; his two children, Kimberly Reaper and Samuel (Jennifer) Hite; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; his brothers, Marvin (Nancy) Hite and David (Patty) Hite; his uncle, James Hite of Peoria, Arizona; his aunt, June Hite of Greenville, Ohio; and fifteen nieces and nephews.
A man of deep faith and service, Kelvin was a member of Millersport Methodist Church and a former member of Christ United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio, where he served on the Board of Trustees for many years.
Kelvin devoted more than 20 years to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 195 in Columbus. His dedication extended beyond his own troop, as he served as a leader and trainer of other adult volunteers, as a former Blackfoot trainer, Scoutmaster, and Course Director. He was a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and proudly embraced his role as a rough-and-rowdy Mountain Man at Chief Logan Scout Reservation, where his troop returned year after year for summer camp. Through Scouting, Kelvin built lifelong friendships, mentored young people, and helped shape the lives of countless scouts and fellow volunteers.
His commitment to service continued through Lions International, where he served for more than 20 years in various leadership roles and committees, including Club President, and most recently, he served as District Governor for Ohio District 13-OH7. Whether through organized service or a simple act of kindness, Kelvin believed in giving his time and talents to make a difference.
Kelvin also dedicated countless hours and hard work to helping maintain the grounds of the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival, contributing to an event that brought his community together. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and lending a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance with a project around the house. He was always willing to share his knowledge, offer his time, and show up when someone needed him.
Kelvin will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his faith, his community, and the many organizations he served. His legacy lives on in the generations he loved, the lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the countless acts of service that reflected who he was. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and an example of generosity, leadership, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
