Judy L. Googins, a beloved teacher, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at her residence in Granville, Ohio. Judy was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on June 21, 1942, to the late Gus Edward Goebel and Lucy L. (Morrison) Goebel.
Judy was united in marriage to Dale S. Googins on June 8, 1963, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey that spanned over 63 years. Together, Judy and Dale built a family filled with love and support. Judy is survived by her husband, Dale, her loving children, Scott (Jody) Googins and Jennifer (Dan) Hare, and her treasured grandchildren, Ellie Googins, Tommy Googins, Charlie Googins; Alex Hare and his fiancé, Kayla, and Connor Hare. Judy also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Diane Goebel; niece and nephew Cindy and Gustin; and many other family members and friends who will deeply miss her bright spirit and unwavering kindness.
Preceding her in death are her beloved daughter, Amy Sue Googins, and her brother, Rodney Gus Goebel.
Judy’s passion for education was evident through her lifelong dedication to her career as an elementary school teacher with Granville City Schools. She inspired countless young minds with her unwavering commitment and nurturing spirit, leaving an indelible mark on the community she loved so dearly.
Beyond her professional life, Judy was an active member of several organizations, including the former International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and the Heart of Ohio Quilter Guild. Her love for quilting, sewing, reading, and trivia were matched only by her culinary skills and her love for entertaining, especially hosting cherished Christmas Eve and Fourth of July gatherings. A breast cancer survivor, Judy’s strength and resilience were an inspiration to all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church in Granville, Ohio, on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Bob Long officiating. The family invites all who knew Judy to join in remembering a life filled with love, laughter, and warmth.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice, honoring Judy’s compassionate care in her final days.
The family would like to thank the dedicated team at StoryPoint Granville for the extraordinary compassion, gentleness, and dignified care given to Judy. Your support brought immense comfort to both Judy, Dale, and their entire family.
