A funeral service celebrating the life of Joseph Albert Verasso, age 87, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, with Pastor Steve Robison and Pastor Roger Conley officiating. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Joe was born October 13, 1926 in Licking County, Ohio to the late Joseph and Bessie M. (Ventura) Verasso. He passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Joe faithfully served his country during World War II. He retired as an inspector from the Kaiser Aluminum Corp. after 34 years of service. He attended Crossway Fellowship Church and the Bible Temple of God and loved to serve both churches and attend Bible study. He was a lifetime member of the AFL-CIO and enjoyed Bingo, traveling, camping and spending time with his family. He is survived by a daughter, Lana Marie (Date) Grise of Newark; a son, Ben Verasso; eleven grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Waveline (Starkey) Verasso; sons, Richard Verasso and Terry Verasso; a great-grandson, Trevor Hartless; granddaughter-in-law, Tyra Verasso; and by four sisters and five brothers.
