John E. Shell, 96, passed away on September 21, 2026. He was born April 15, 1930, in Thornport, Ohio, to Walker and Clara Shell.  John and Dorothy "Darlene" (Karnes) Shell were married on August 13, 1955, and shared more than 65 years together before her passing in January 2021.

John spent his career as a crane operator and was a retired member of the Ohio Operating Engineers. He loved a good bargain and was well known for his yard sales.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Shell; his parents, Walker and Clara (Boyer) Shell; his daughter, Eva Shell; and his sister, Louella (Shell) Van Dyke.  John is survived by his son, John L. Shell; granddaughter, Alexis (Shell) French; grandson, Austin Bowers; great-grandson, Caden French; sisters, Viola (Shell) Walters and Ruby (Shell) Bowers; and several nieces and nephews.

John’s niece, Lorie Waters, held a particularly special place in his life. Her care, time, and devotion to him, especially during the final chapter of his life, meant more than words can express, and his family is deeply grateful for all she did for him.

John lived a long life filled with family, hard work, and plenty of good bargains. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 5th, 2026, at Hebron Cemetery, 934 W. Main Street, Hebron, Ohio 43025.
