Obituary

Newark, OH – Jesse Joe Cooperrider, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on Wednesday, August 31st, 1938, in Thornville, Ohio. Jesse spent a life rich in love, commitment, and dedication to his family and career.

Jesse is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Lurinda (Stevens) Cooperrider, with whom he shared a beautiful journey since October 31, 1959. His legacy continues with his sons, R. Lee (Jennifer) Cooperrider and J. Jay (Judy) Cooperrider; cherished grandchildren, Rosa (Donald) Bolen, J. Jon Cooperrider, and Tabby (Ben) Carnes; and treasured great-grandchildren, Donald Jay Bolen and Shae Marie Bolen. Jesse is also survived by his sister, Lou Edith Helsel, and brother, Robert (Kathy) Cooperrider. His special niece, Diana (Mark) Lane, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will remember him fondly.

Preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Velma (Grove) Cooperrider; and his siblings Raymond, Vera, David, and Frank, Jesse's memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him and loved him.

A graduate of Thornville High School, Jesse began a remarkable career as an Operations Engineer with Shelly Company, where he dedicated 45 years of steadfast service. He was a proud 58-year member of the Ohio Operating Engineers and enjoyed lifelong affiliations with the Newark Eagles, Heath Eagles, and the Monday Night Euchre Club.

Jesse loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and delighted in spending time outdoors hunting deer and raccoons, fishing for walleye on Lake Erie, and watching sporting events on TV. Above all, he relished the precious moments spent with his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service in Newark, OH, on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may visit prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jesse's name to the Make A Wish Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
