James Charles Wilson, a resident of Thornville, Ohio, passed away August 27, 2025 at the age of 88. Jim was the son of Dalton and Icel (Welch) Wilson of Hemlock, Ohio. He was a 1955 graduate of Shawnee High School where he was an outstanding basketball player. He married his wife Janet (West) who preceded him in passing in 1997.
Jim retired in 1997 after 42 years working at Kaiser Aluminum in Heath, Ohio. He also independently bought and sold standing timber for many years and served on the Village of Thornville's Board of Public Affairs. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting and fishing.
Jim was a lifelong member of the Thornville United Methodist Church, Over the years Jim volunteered in the community in various way including delivery of Meals on Wheels, member of the Sertoma Club, and once was a volunteer fire fighter.
Jim is survived by his children Marylu (Jim) Jardine of Heath, Ohio; Karen (Dave) Lawler of Buckeye Lake, Ohio; and Rev. Jim (Nancy) Wilson of Plain City, Ohio. He is also survived by his sister Gloria Waite of Bellville, Ohio. His surviving grandchildren include Heidi Jardine of Heath, Ohio, Justin (Stephanie) Jardine of Heath, Ohio, Ben (Maria) Lawler of Worthington, Ohio Sarah (Kyle) Murphy of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and Chase Wilson of Bloomington, Indiana. Surviving Great-Grandchildren include Katlyn Jardine, Makayla Jardine, Tyra Alston, Abigail Jardine-MacVey, Amelia Jardine-MacVey, and Elowyn Lawler. Jim enjoyed many years of relationship with Loretta Mertens of Thornville, Ohio who also survives.
In addition to his parents and wife Janet, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jerry and Virgil Wilson; sisters Barbara Wilson, Opal Majors, Louella Lyons and Marilyn Yost; and grandchildren James Wilson III, Bradley Wilson and Dominic Wilson.
Friends may call at the Hoskinson Funeral Home, 56 South Main St. in Thornville on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday August 31, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the Thornville United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. James C. Wilson II officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.
