A funeral service celebrating the life of James Thompson, age 64, of Marion, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. Friends may call from 11 am-12 pm prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Jim was born on February 7, 1962, in Newark, Ohio, to Gloria J. (Rose) Winegardner and the late James F. Thompson, Sr. He passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at his residence.

The proud owner of JT Tool & Machine in Marion, Ohio, Jim built the business on his own over 25 years ago. He was a very accomplished tool & die technician who served many businesses across the United States. An avid car enthusiast, he was also a passionate Harley Davidson owner. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Jimmy” to his nieces and nephews, and his great-nieces and nephews. Jim was so grateful for this that he named one of his cherished cars “Uncle Jimmy’s Toy”. He was a very good-hearted man who helped many people throughout his life. His other great love was his two dogs, Missy and Stinky. He also cherished the times he would visit his family in Newark for holidays and birthday get-togethers.

He is survived by his mother, Gloria Winegardner; sister and brother-in-law, Tracy & Steve Gordon; nieces and nephews, Madyson Lacey, Tyler and Tiffany Gordon, Megan and Bryan Murphy, and Josh Gordon (Audrey Townsend); great nieces and nephews, Tanner and Tucker Gordon and Macie and Jackson Murphy.

He was preceded in death by his father and younger brother, David Lacey, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (a charity that Jim often contributed to in memory of his grandmother) or to a Humane Society of your choice.
