Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved James C. McCreary, who left this world peacefully on July 22, 2026, at the age of 103. Born on February 12, 1923, in Newark, Ohio, James lived a long and fulfilling life, dedicated to his family, faith, and the many communities he touched.

James proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army Air Corps. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career as a Glass Furnace Engineer, dedicating many years to Ball Manufacturing Company, where his expertise and integrity left an indelible mark.

A committed and cherished member of the Christian Apostolic Church in Newark, James found great joy in his faith and fellowship. He relished the quiet beauty of photography, the thrill of motorcycling, and the adventure of road trips, maintaining his perfect sense of direction at every twist and turn. His ventures in his RV, long walks, and moments spent with family and friends were his most treasured memories.

James is survived by his loving wife, Janet McCreary; his children Larry James "LJ" (Joyce) McCreary, Cynthia J. Wagner, Peggy L. (Larry) Jenkins, Michael N. McCreary, and Aaron B. (Leslie) McCreary. He leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren, Jani, L. Shawn (Cindy), Dana, Eric, Jamin (Julie), Jared (Jennifer), Jolie (Scott), Brooke, and Chase; along with 18 great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and loyal friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lorenzo Dewey and Winona Pearl McCreary; his first wife, Charlene McCreary; brothers, Kenneth and Frederick McCreary; daughter-in-law, Billene McCreary; and son-in-law, Larry Wagner.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Christian Apostolic Church, 22 N. 23rd Street, Newark, officiated by Pastor Keith Sjostrand. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery with military honors observed by the Licking County Veteran's Alliance.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Christian Apostolic Church or Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the church.

James C. McCreary will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his profound ability to live a life full of love and laughter. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
