**Obituary for James Kermit Berry**
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Kermit Berry, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. James was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Monday, June 23rd, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on February 19th, 1933, in Lancaster, Ohio, James lived a life full of love and service, residing on his farm near Pleasantville, Ohio.
James is lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Sally Berry, with whom he shared a beautiful life since their marriage on June 10, 1983. He leaves behind his beloved children: Susan Fast, Michael (Nida) Berry, Peggy (John) Rogers and Bradley (Mary Ann) Berry; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever cherish his memory.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Hazel (Myers) Berry, and his stepdaughter, Amy Murphy. The legacy James leaves is built upon a foundation of love, integrity, and faith.
A lifelong farmer, James was the 6th generation on their 200 year old family farm; where he spent many years dedicated to his fields and cattle. Known for his unparalleled work ethic, he was proud to be self-employed as a farmer, investing his life in nurturing both crops and family. Before his farming career, James served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, a commitment that instilled in him a deep sense of dedication and duty.
James was deeply rooted in his faith, a committed member of the Lighthouse Memorial Church community in Millersport, OH. Known for his strong Christian beliefs, James shared his faith passionately, distributing tracts and speaking to others about the love of Jesus. For over 20 years, he participated in the church’s Van Ministry, joyfully driving the van to bring children to services, sharing not just a ride, but also hope and kindness.
In his earlier years, James found joy in bowling, a sport he enjoyed immensely, bringing laughter and camaraderie to those around him. He also enjoyed visiting the Boy's Industrial School near Lancaster, where he volunteered to share his Christian faith and witness. In his latter years, he enjoyed sitting in the swing in the back yard.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation at Lighthouse Memorial Church in Millersport, OH, on Saturday, June 28th, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service to honor and celebrate James's life will be held on Saturday, June 28th, 2025, at 11:00 am, also at the Lighthouse Memorial Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 South Main Street in Thornville.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to the Lighthouse Memorial Church. Envelopes will be available at the services.
Though he has departed from this world, James Kermit Berry's influence, virtues, and love continue to illuminate the lives of those he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.
