Gloria Marie Silber, age 100, of Irvine, California, formerly of Outville, passed away on August 11, 2025 at her home. Gloria was born July 4, 1925 in Outville, Ohio to the late Reed McClain and Dorothea May Snider.
Gloria received a Bachelor’s degree from Denison University in 1947 and received a Diploma in Design from the Interior Designers Guild in 1976.
An art instructor at Denison University, Granville, from 1945-48, Gloria went on to be a proofreader for the Chicago Tribune from 1948-50, an instructor of art at Palma Ceia Elementary in Tampa, Florida from 1956-58, and was employed with the Irvine (California) Arts Center from 1969-70. Gloria was a public relations hostess for The Irvine Company in Newport Beach, California from 1972-75, and was a community development advisor from 1978-79, instructor for television arts and crafts show from 1975-77, and was a freelance artis and designer in Irvine.
Gloria was an American artist, interior designer, and consultant and her achievements included helping in the planning and construction of the Irvine Fine Arts Building, and assisted in the formation of Irvine as a city. She was a recipient of the Shepardson Art Scholarship at Denison University in 1946, received the Juror’s Award from the Watercolor West Society in 1998, the Purchase Award from the Watercolor West 30th Annual Juried Exhibition in 1999; and the Merchandise Award in the San Diego 20 International Art Exhibition in 2000. Gloria was listed as a notable artist, interior designer, and consultant by Marquis Who’s Who.
Gloria was a secretary of the Broadmoor Community Association in Irvine from 1978-79, the first vice president of the Palma Ceia Junior Women’s Club in Tampa from 1956-59, and served on the board of directors for the Tampa Philharmonic from 1957-59. She was a member of the Irvine Civic League, the Irvine Women’s Club, Irvine Parent-Teachers Association, the American Association of University Women, the Orange County Fine Arts, Costa Mesa Art League (president 1990), and the Irvine Fine Arts League (vice president 1969). Gloria enjoyed tennis, painting, gardening, accessorizing, and walking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Christian Silber, whom she married June 8, 1948.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra Silber; and sons, Douglas Arthur Silber and Scott Reed Silber.
Private inurnment will take place at Kirkersville Cemetery.
