Obituary

Glen F. Shaeffer, age 86 of Thornville, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at Mt. Carmel East. He was born on Valentines Day, February 14, 1940, to the late Merle F. and Sadie (Vickroy) Shaeffer in Lancaster, Ohio.

He was a 1958 graduate of Lancaster High School and then served his country with the U. S. Air Force from 1958 – 1962. Glen retired from UPS after 25 years of service driving a semi. He then drove a school bus for Northern Local Schools for many years.

He was a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 51 and a past member of the Thornville Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Newark Moose #499, and Thornville Lions Club. Glen loved golfing, camping, boating, bowling, and spending time with his family. In 2001, he won his age division in the Ohio State Bowling Tournament and got to compete in the National Tournament in Reno, NV. He also enjoyed watching westerns and NASCAR on tv. In retirement, Glen and Linda spent a number of years wintering in Bradenton, Florida.

In addition to his parents, Glen was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda (Binion) Shaeffer in 2024. Glen is survived by his children, Lynn (Delio) Gutierrez of Florida, Tiffany Shaeffer of Thornville, Brian (Tami) Shaeffer of Pataskala; grandson, Brandon McCandless of Colorado; siblings, Harold (Janice) Shaeffer, Maggie Harlor, Millie Adams, Paul (Pam) Shaeffer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 PM Friday, July 31, 2026, at Hoskinson Funeral Home, 56 South Main Street, Thornville, Ohio 43076 where Military Honors will conclude the gathering at 4 PM Friday.

Contributions may be made to the Fisher-Nightingale Houses, Inc or another organization of your choice that supports veterans.
