December 5, 1941 – June 6, 2026
General Grant Oliver, age 84, of Newark, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Grant was born December 5, 1941 in Granville, Ohio to the late Augustus George Oliver and the late Lillie Mae (McMillen) Oliver.
A graduate of Newark High School and The Ohio State University, Grant was a metallurgical engineering consultant and retired from Kaiser Aluminum. An avid sports fan, Grant loved watching the Buckeyes, mushroom hunting, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his son, Julius Vail (Renee) Oliver; daughter, Carla Oliver; special nephew, Christopher Wilkins; daughter-in-law, Wanda Oliver; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; sisters, Willa Oliver and Laura J. Oliver; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, General Grant Oliver II; and by brothers, Julius A., Joseph, Walter, Jesse, James, and Jacob Oliver; and sisters, Gloria Oliver and Carolyn Wilkins. He was also preceded in death by his longtime faithful companion, Henry, his Sheltie dog.
A celebration of Grant’s life will be held by his family at a later date.
