Gary Merril Hoskinson, a beloved resident of Newark, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on July 1, 1943, in Newark, Ohio, Gary lived a life full of kindness, dedication, and service to his community.

A proud member of Sheridan High School's Class of 1961, Gary went on to serve the State of Ohio with distinction as a Transportation Supervisor at the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in Jacksontown, Ohio. Over his 25-year career, Gary was known for his dedication and commitment to ensuring safety and efficiency on Ohio's roads. In retirement, he continued to serve his community by assisting his cousin Rick Hoskinson at The Hoskinson Funeral Homes, where he brought comfort to many through his compassion and care.

Gary was an active member of the Newark Elks Lodge and was formerly associated with the Newark Lodge Druids, communities that brought him much joy and lifelong friendships.

Gary is survived by his wife, Betty (Clark) whom he married on July 14, 1990 in Newark.

Gary's legacy lives on through his loving children: Curt (Eydie) Hoskinson, William "Bill" Hoskinson, Marcy (Andy) Zamborsky, and Lory (Jason) Bullock. He was a proud grandfather to Zane (Bree Taylor) Hoskinson, Elayna Hoskinson, Elizabeth (Turner) Hoskinson, Grace (Dylan) Hoskinson, Sophia, and William "Will" Hoskinson; Cole and Ethan Zamborsky; Brody, Brennan, and Lela Bullock. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, William Merril Hoskinson and Frances Eleanor (Peterman) Hoskinson.

The family invites friends and loved ones to a visitation at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service in Newark, OH, on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service, with Clifford Mason as celebrant, will follow at 1:00 pm at the same location. Pallbearers honoring Gary's life will be Zane Hoskinson, Will Hoskinson, Cole Zamborsky, Ethan Zamborsky, Brody Bullock, and Brennan Bullock. A private family burial will take place at Mount Vernon Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice, echoing Gary’s spirit of generosity and care for others. The Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service in Newark is honored to care for Gary and his family during this time.
