A memorial service, celebrating the life of Freda M. Harris, age 91, of Newark, will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 88 N. Fifth Street, Newark, with Pastor Steve Rath officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the memorial service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Private burial services will be held at Zanesville Memorial Park at a later date.Freda was born in Duncan Falls, Ohio on September 14, 1924 to the late D.O. and Mable (Ayers) Harris. She passed away on July 31, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living in Newark.Prior to retirement, Freda was a human resource specialist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Newark Air Force Base for 25 years, and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newark, where she formerly sang in the choir and volunteered for the bereavement committee. She also volunteered for over 30 years at Licking Memorial Hospital. Freda enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing, always had an uplifting and positive personality, and especially enjoyed serving others.Survivors include two nieces, Pam (James) Lear and Kathy (Dan) Caputo; three nephews, Jeffrey (Jo Ellen) Harris, Phil (Holly) Harris and Keith Harris; five great nieces; six great nephews; and numerous great great nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Lela Steward; three brothers, Clancy, Virgil and Everett Harris; and one nephew, Rich Steward.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Freda to First United Methodist Church, 88 N.
