Obituary

Don Martin Scott, age 82, of Zanesville, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at his home. Don was born on October 19, 1943 in Marietta, Ohio.

Don's journey was one marked by dedication and service. He earned an associate’s degree in accounting from Ohio University, and he spent many years working diligently as a Fiscal Specialist for the State of Ohio until his retirement. His commitment extended beyond his professional life as he played a significant role in community sports. Don was a passionate OSU Buckeyes football fan and an avid participant in the sporting community as a baseball umpire. For over 25 years, he was a proud member of the Central Ohio Baseball Umpires Association, where he contributed to the sport he dearly loved.

He attended the Anchor Church in Zanesville, drawing peace and comfort in his faith community.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Penrod) Scott of Zanesville; son, Brandon (Carissa) Scott of Granville; daughter, Brandi Scott of Granville; his mother, Betty Jane (Hill) Scott Farley of Zanesville; grandchildren, Hannah Scott and Ethan Scott; step-daughter, Brenda (Tony) Fleming of New Lexington; a brother, Alfred (Rita) Farley of Delaware; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Don Martin Scott, Jr. in 2014; and by his father, Sterling Stanford Scott.

The family will observe a private celebration of Don’s life at a later date.
