Dennis was born in Newark, Ohio, on Sunday, December 24th, 1950, to Marshall and Margarite Hankinson. He was a dedicated and hardworking individual who spent over three decades as a furniture salesman at Sam Alban Furniture in Newark, where his commitment and service will long be remembered. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, exemplifying bravery and patriotism that characterized much of his life.
Family was central to Dennis. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gayla D. (Jones) Hankinson, whom he married October 16, 1975; son and daughter-in-law, William "Bill" and Jenny Hankinson; cherished grandchildren, Derek (Olivia) Shell, Austin (Kirsten) Hankinson, and Kayla (Dallas) Dixon; and adored great-grandchildren, Easton, Jaxson, Addiesten, and Taylor. He leaves behind his brother-in-law, Jim Hiles, and fondly remembered nieces and nephews, Randy Hiles, Krista (Ric) Ellis, and Vicky Wygle, alongside their families. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and his dear sister, Alyce Hiles.
Dennis was a man of varied interests. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was mowing his lawn, cutting wood, or lending a helping hand to those in need. Renowned as a great handyman, his skills were matched only by his generosity. His love for his wife, family, and friends was palpable and enduring.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Kirkersville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral Home on Sunday, March 1st, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Military honors will be observed at 4:00 p.m. by the Licking County Veteran's Alliance, as we pay tribute to a life marked by admirable service and dedication.
For those wishing to honor Dennis’s memory, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Licking County Humane Society, a cause close to his heart.
Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Dennis and his family during this time of sorrow. His loss is profound, but the legacy of love and service he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who knew him.
