David Franklin Olson, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, at his home in Etna, Ohio. Born on Sunday, August 28th, 1938, in Brookville, Pennsylvania, David lived a life marked by dedicated service to his family, community, and country.

A proud alumnus of Penn State University, David earned his Engineering degree as part of the Class of 1963. Shortly after, he served honorably in the United States Air Force, exemplifying commitment and courage. His technical acumen brought him to a distinguished career with ATT/Bell Labs in Columbus, Ohio, where he served as a Technical Engineer. His work with Bell Labs and later ATT Lucent Technologies, was marked by innovation and dedication.

David was a long-term resident of Etna, Ohio, where he was deeply engaged with his community. For nearly 30 years, he served on the Etna Zoning Commission, contributing to the growth and organization of the area he loved so dearly.

David was a devoted family man, survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne M. Olson, and his children: son, John Olson; daughters, Jean Tom and Janet (Brian) Gay. He will be deeply missed by his brother, Jerry Olson and his cherished grandchildren: Justin Tom, Jacklyn (Mark) Keene, Derek Tom, Jessica (Danny) Frum, Christopher Olson, David and Colin Gay. The joy of his life continued with his great-grandchildren, Bryce Keene, Connor Keene, and Barrett Frum; his nephew, Phillip Olson and niece, Elizabeth (Steve) Greseth, along with his church family at Kirkersville UM Church.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Olson and Charlotte Olson.

In his honor, services will be managed by the Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, Kirkersville, with his legacy celebrated by friends and family. Friends may call at the Kirkersville home of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service on Sunday, August 9, from 2-4 pm and again on Monday, August 10th from 10-11 am with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00 am. A ceremony by the Licking County Veterans Alliance will commemorate his military service at the Kirkersville cemetery. Pastors Gerald Arnott, Tom Miller, and Matt VanWinkle will be concelebrants.

David Franklin Olson's life was a testament to perseverance, love, and community service. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
