It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David L. Hanes, who peacefully left us on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 64. A resident of Hebron, Ohio, David was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on Tuesday, August 23, 1960. He lived a life rich with passion, dedication, and a love for both family and his diverse interests.
David was a cherished brother to Michael S. (Dorene) Hanes, Bruce A. (Beth) Hanes, Cynthia A. (Gary) Heil, and Cathy S. Hanes. He was a beloved uncle to nieces and nephews, Laura Heil, Logan Hanes, Trevor Hanes, Andrew Hanes, Spencer (Katherine) Hanes, Lindsey Heil, Sarah Hanes, and Austin (Taylor) Hanes. David's extended family includes cousins, Robert (Susan) Barbee, Sandy Barbee, and Heidi Kirk Crabbe; former spouse, Dianna L. Russell; along with many dear friends who will undoubtedly feel his absence.
In addition to his familial achievements, David was a vibrant member of the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association (ALPCA), where he indulged his passion for collecting and selling vintage license plates. His love for adrenaline and skill of rally car racing and endurance racing was matched only by his enjoyment of attending rock concerts and his dedication to music. A loyal Columbus Blue Jackets hockey fan, David's enthusiasm for the team was palpable. As a devoted cat lover, he found joy and companionship in his feline friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Richard J. Hanes and Eloise J. Hanes, who welcomed him into their loving arms once more.
