David Harkness Bingham - “Harky” to those closest to him - passed away peacefully in Granville, Ohio, on September 21, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and a friend to many. His warmth, wit and generosity touched everyone who knew him.

Born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, David graduated from Arthur Hill High School before heading to Denison University where he would major in fine art and find the love of his life, Mary Hauser. Mary and Dave married soon after graduating and returned to Saginaw to begin their life together.

In Saginaw, Dave and Mary raised their three children, and Dave built a career as a financial advisor with Roney & Company. Some of Dave’s favorite Saginaw memories were time spent at the Saginaw Club, swimming and ice skating at his “property” with family friends, and frequent neighborhood gatherings.

On winter weekends, Dave volunteered as a ski patrolman at Boyne Highlands in Harbor Springs, Michigan. In the summer months, his favorite pastimes were fishing the Au Sable River near his parents’ cabin or spending treasured family time on Wastina Island in Pointe Au Baril, Canada.

After retirement, Dave and Mary built their dream home in Granville, Ohio, near their beloved alma mater. They quickly became cherished members of both the Denison University and Granville communities, filling their home with Dave’s beautiful artwork alongside a lifetime of collected antiques, war relics, books and family heirlooms.

Dave was a gifted storyteller with a quick sense of humor and a generous spirit that drew people to him - his circle of friends only grew larger with each passing year. A history and movie buff as well as an avid reader, he brought the same curiosity and care to his relationships as he did to his collections. David stayed close to his high school friends, his fraternity brothers and his ski patrol buddies throughout his life, and their shared stories and jokes became part of the family lore.

Dave also served as an army reservist, one more thread in a life defined by loyalty to his family, his friends, his alma mater and his communities.

David will be missed by his surviving children Martin (Pirrie) Bingham and Elizabeth (Ronald) Seibel, five grandsons, Wesley (Sofia), John, Benjamin, Shepard and William, and his sister Julie (Dick) Holmberg. He is predeceased by his father Russell Martin Bingham (1904-1973) and mother Elizabeth Belle Carlisle (1913-1992), his wife Mary Hauser (1938-2013) and his son David (1963-2005).

The family will honor his vibrant life at 2 pm, Saturday, November 14, 2026 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church 107 E. Broadway, Granville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to - A Call to College (acalltocollege.org) .
