A celebration of the life of Crystal J. (West) Cook, age 103, of Newark will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 8, at First Baptist Church of Newark, 1000 Granville Road, Newark, with Pastor Jim Addy officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Crystal went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the Inn at SharonBrooke.
Born January 1, 1923 on the family farm in Marengo, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Verner E. West and Florence (Sayre) West Ulrey.
Crystal was a graduate of Marengo High School and attended Marion Business College.
She married Roy B. Cook on April 16, 1942. Roy was drafted into the United States Army in August of that year and while he served twenty-nine months overseas, Crystal worked in the office at Nestle Co. in Sunbury. Upon his return from the service she became and remained a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.
In her younger life Crystal provided nurture and care to many children, and in later years that same care was provided to her mother, mother-in-law, sister and brother-in-law.
Crystal and Roy spent twenty-one winters at their home in Sebring, Florida where they enjoyed hosting many friends and family.
She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Newark where she was active in the Open Circle Sunday School class, Bible Study and Women’s Circle.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, John W. Cook and Wilma Redman of Palmyra, New York; daughter and son-in-law, Jane L. and Rodney McKee of Hanover; grandchildren, Christopher (Maria) Cook, Matthew (Amy) McKee, Amanda (Mike) Sauter, Jennifer (Pete) Tehomilic, Keenan (Cathy) McKee, Ethan (Jennifer) McKee, Stacy (Eric) Silver, Scott Rogers and Julie Knapp; fifteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, on April 5, 2010; sister, Juanita E. (Rev. William) Powers; brother, Earl A.(Margaret) West and one great-grandson.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, April 8, at the church.
