Chester Burl Scanlon

Chester Burl Scanlon, a cherished resident of Newark, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025, at the age of 56. Chester was born on Monday, October 14th, 1968, in the same town he called home throughout his life. Newark was more than just his birthplace; it was his community, a place where he formed lifelong connections and memories.

Chester was a dedicated bookkeeper by profession, known for his meticulous nature and unwavering commitment to his work. Outside of his career, he was a man of many passions. Chester enjoyed tinkering with cars, a hobby that allowed him to fuse creativity with skill, often shared with family and friends. Among his most treasured pastimes was coon hunting, an activity that offered him cherished moments of relaxation and connection with nature.

Family was the cornerstone of Chester's life. He is survived by his beloved sons, Bernard Porter, Nickolas Porter, and Kristopher Porter, who continue to embody his spirit and values. His significant other, Jenny Harris, was his steadfast partner and companion. Chester was also a proud grandfather to Addison, Shawn, MacKinsie, and Rynlee, who brought joy and laughter to his life.

Chester's life was enriched by his siblings, each of whom held a special place in his heart: Anna (Bobby) Sothen, Maria (Keith) Robertson, Johana Scanlon, Stella (John Robertson) Cockrell, Danny (Sherril) Scanlon, Rosella (Rick) Peck, Mary (Chuck) Pethtel, Rick (Brenda) Burchard, Carl (Anita) Burchard, and Mark Burchard. Chester was preceded in death by his father, Earl Burchard; mother, Mary Lou Burchard; and brother, Earl Burchard. His vast family also includes numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss his love, wisdom, and humor.

Chester's memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His love for family gatherings and enduring friendships created bonds that will outlast his time on earth. Chester's spirit, marked by kindness, resilience, and generosity, will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
