Newark

Carl Lee Hoffer, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28th, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Newark, Ohio on August 19, 1948, Carl was a cherished resident of Newark who made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Carl dedicated his life to his work and community. He was a devoted construction worker, specializing in masonry, whose skill and craftsmanship can be seen throughout the region. His talent and dedication were evident in every brick he laid and every building he helped construct.

Beyond his professional life, Carl was known for his vibrant personality and many interests. He was an avid fisherman who found peace and joy by the water. Carl's love for collecting antiques was only rivaled by his passion for playing cards, especially Euchre and poker with friends and family. He spent countless hours at Park Lanes, where he participated in many bowling leagues over the years, and enjoyed playing horseshoes, bicycling, and sharing basketball games.

Carl was an active member of the Newark Moose Lodge #499, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed to the community. His love of spending time in Florida with his late wife, Judy, brought him endless joy, and his cherished memories of those moments will forever be treasured by his family.

Carl is survived by his loving children, Tammy L. (Frank) Dzierwa, Tanya L. (Earl) Miller, Kathleen "Kat" (Dennis) Avery, and Annie L. (Dave) Miller; step-daughter, Kimberly (Daniel) Perry. He also leaves behind his siblings, Al (Gayle) Hoffer, Lester (Linda) Hoffer, Mary Barna, and Elmer Hoffer; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard "Dick" Hoffer and Hoffer Lucille; his beloved wife, Judy Hoffer; his daughter, Christina Hoffer; step-son, Anthony Swick; and siblings, Richard "Smokey" Hoffer, Thelma "Fawn" Jones, Charlie Hoffer, and Wayne Hoffer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl's memory to the Newark Moose Lodge #499 to continue supporting the community he held dear.

Carl's legacy of love, laughter, and craftsmanship will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
