Brenda Lynn Mathis

Brenda Lynn Mathis, 74, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at home with her family by her side in Thornville, Ohio. She was born on November 20, 1951, in Fort Hood, Texas, to the late Vernon and Faye (Averret) White.

Brenda was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to her family and community. She comes from a long line of military family and is retired military wife. Her husband was in the U.S. Army and her son was in the U.S. Navy, both deeply honoring and upholding the values of service and country. Brenda had a profound passion for traveling, she enjoyed working with children at the local Youth Center, loved art, painting, coloring, and puzzles. She would often go to karaoke and loved to sing. Her favorite music was gospel music.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Elige Mathis. They married on September 2, 1969; son, Elige (Teresa) Mathis, Jr., of Thornville, Ohio; daughter, Angela Cobb of Guntersville, Alabama; son (grandson), John (Desiree) Cobb of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Eva (Mickie) Ennis, Teresa (John) Nemec, Marie (Steve) Wade, and Beverly Wilson, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her sister, Vermalin Breedwell; grandson, Joshua Stack; and brother, Vernon White, Jr.

Per Brenda's wishes, there will be no services held at this time.
