Brenda Kay Lavender

February 28, 1953 — May 12, 2024

Brenda Kay Lavender, 71, of Newark, peacefully passed away at her residence on May 12, 2024. She was born in Newark, Ohio on February 28, 1953 to the late Ivan and Lillian (Ramsey) Jones. Brenda was a devoted homemaker to her family. She enjoyed going to the casino and was always lucky playing the double cherry slot machine, traveling with family and friends, building model train scenery, but most important in her life was the time she spent with her loving family and friends. Brenda was also a devoted foster parent to so many children, later her husband and she went on to adopt 4 of those loving children. She loved to make a difference in children’s lives every chance she got. Brenda was always the most amazing Grandmother and always dreamed of being a nana (Great Grandma), and she got the chance to be the best nana to three! She always loved the time she got to spend with her great grandkids. She would light up when they would come to see her and she always listened to every story, kissed every booboo and enjoyed every snuggle. The one wish she wanted was to see her grandkids one more time before her passing, and she did. She was able to give her very last hugs and kisses to her great grandchildren. One thing we can always say about Brenda is she was always there for all of her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She supported all of them in many different ways and loved each of them with all of her heart. Brenda is survived by her husband, Dennis L. Lavender, whom she married December 15, 1988; children, Patricia Wright, Tonya (Elizabeth) Wiseman, Danielle (Mark) Hammond, Amanda Lavender, BJ Lavender, Brian Grover and David Grover; grandchildren, Rebecca (Makenzie) Hansen and Gabriel Beane; great grandchildren, Astella Saffell, Egypt Saffell and Kyngston Saffell; brothers, Robert Jones and Melvin (Vickie) Jones; sister, Joyce (Joseph) Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Lavender; and son Benjamin Lavender. At Brenda's request, no memorial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brenda's memory to any of her favorite charities: Disabled American Veterans, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Autism Speaks, and Hospice of Central Ohio. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Brenda and her family.
