Bradney “Derek” Henson, 41, of Pataskala, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in Thornville. Born December 29, 1983, in Columbus, Ohio, Derek was cherished by his family and friends for his warmth, kindness, and his sense of humor.
A 2002 graduate of Watkins Memorial High School, Derek went on to become the proud owner and operator of Columbus Candle Supply in Canal Winchester. He loved baseball, spending time outdoors, collecting antiques, and admiring old cars. Known as a master of the grill and smoker, Derek found joy in sharing good food and laughter with the people he loved. He was also a devoted member of Impact City Church, where he regularly attended services and drew strength from his faith.
Derek is survived by his beloved wife, Julia (Robinson) Henson, whom he met in middle school and married on September 20, 2014; and their daughter, Skarlette, the light of his life. Derek and Julia shared over 20 years together, building a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
He is also survived by his mother, Dawn Henson; stepfather, Ken Scott; sister, Kierstan Wolfe; step-brother, Spencer Scott; mother-in-law, Linda Crabtree (Bo); brother-in-law, Mike (Traci) Crabtree; sister-in-law, Angela (David) Wilson; nephews, Nova, A.J. (Trisha), and Brandon; nieces, Hannah and Alanna; and his uncle, Tom Henson, with whom he shared a very special bond.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mikel “Pap” and Carolyn “Nan” Henson, who lovingly helped raise him and shaped the man he became. Derek honored their memory every day through the way he lived his life.
Family was at the heart of everything Derek did. He was happiest surrounded by his loved ones and friends, always ready to fix what was broken, lend a hand, or share a laugh. His infectious love for life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service in Kirkersville, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., officiated by the family’s good friend, Pastor Bob Nicholson. Following the funeral service, Derek will be laid to rest at Pataskala Cemetery. A celebration of Derek’s life will take place afterward at Impact City Church on Watkins Rd., Pataskala.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to help with Derek’s final arrangements. Donations may be made directly to Hoskinson Funeral Home, in person, through their website or by phone.
Derek was a man of God whose faith shaped the way he lived. While he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace with the Lord, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
