Betty Irene Matson

Betty Irene (Lendon) Matson, age 89, of Buckeye Lake, Ohio left this world on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 after an extended illness. Betty was born August 18, 1936 in Lewisville, Ohio.

Betty will be missed by her five surviving children: Patricia (Patty) Showalter of Newark, Ohio, Rita Dolan of Millersport, Ohio, James (Molly) Kurtz of Buckeye Lake, Ohio, Jerry (Maria) Kurtz of Delaware, Ohio, and Jeff (Justine) Kurtz of Wesley Chapel, Florida.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Leonard Lendon and Estelle (Morris) Lendon Schaub, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Francis O. “Jack” Matson; her eldest daughter, Estelle “Belle” Booth and Belle's husband, Larry James Booth; son-in-law, Terrance “Terry” Dolan; grandparents, Adolf Spencer Morris and Emma (Barker) Morris; and 10 brothers and sisters, Mary Miller, Alvaretta Luyster, Mildred Lendon, Elsie Bonham, Cora Blackstone, Leonard Lendon Jr., Carl Lendon, Francis Lendon, Bonnie Eichhorn and Larry Schaub.

Betty spent the last 20 years of her life pursuing genealogy and her family roots, as well as helping many others trace their lineage through online research.

There will be no calling hours or formal services for Betty. A private celebration of Betty’s life will be held by the family at a later date.

A special thank you to all those family and friends who have taken time to reach out to Betty and our families in the last few weeks – you all added smiles during a very difficult time.
